2018 In Review
How time flies! We cannot believe that another year is coming to an end already, and what a year it was for Youth Connexion!
We started new volunteer initiatives, updated our application processes, hosted our first annual National Youth Week events, and had a record setting year for volunteer involvement!
This past year has seen Youth Connexion grow from a weekly drop-in program into a dependable resource for local youth looking to earn volunteer hours. Throughout the year, volunteers helped our staff and clients in a variety of programs, giving them valuable experiences to develop and learn!
- Drop-in Volunteers: assisted our staff with set-up and take-down of equipment. Met clients and got an introductory lesson in the behind-the-scenes workings of a recreation facility.
- National Youth Week: our first annual celebration of National Youth Week brought over 120 people in to the facility for the events organized entirely by our youth organizing committee.
- Summer Camp Volunteers: lots of great experience working with kids all day, every day! Playing games, helping to run activities, and swimming in the pool.
- PD Day and Holiday Camp Volunteers: occasional day camps throughout the school year, as well as over March and Winter Breaks. Playing games, running activities, and swimming with the kids!
- Land Recreation Volunteer: assisting our staff in registered sport and recreation instructional courses. Volunteers gained experience as coaches and activity leaders!
- Rock Wall Volunteers: learned about our facility's climbing wall and helped in our instructional climbing courses, as well as in drop-ins.
- Special Events Volunteers: our group created activities for both the Halloween and Christmas events at Richcraft Recreation Complex. They spent weeks preparing for each event and created wonderful environments for all of our clients!
With all of the excitement for our new opportunities this year, we had an explosion of interest in volunteering at Richcraft. Check out our stats this year:
New Volunteers: 44
Returning volunteers: 3
Total hours volunteered: 1829.25
Average hours per volunteer: 38.9
Most hours by one volunteer: 111.75
We cannot wait to see what 2019 has in store for us.
Happy New Year!
