National Youth Week Taking Shape
Good news everyone! Our National Youth Week Organizing Committee has been putting in a lot of great work building the events and activities that will be happening at Richcraft Recreation Complex from May 1-7.
We released our schedule today and thought that we would talk about the events and why we chose to host them! All of the events for National Youth Week are FREE!
May 1 - Drop-in Basketball
Basketball is one of the most popular sport drop-ins at Richcraft, so we figured that this is the best way to kick off National Youth Week and spread the word about what is happening for the rest of the week!
Open to ages 12-18, you can come in to the West Gym at Richcraft to work on your skills, play some HORSE, or join in on a game with everyone else!
May 2 - Flag Football Games
The beginning of May means the beginning of great weather! We wanted to make sure to get some activities outside so that we can shake off all of our winter rust and get moving. We are running TWO games, a 12-14 year old game and a 15-18 year old game.
Register with your friends and come play a fun game of flag football!
May 3 - Trivia Night
Do you have a lot of random, trivial knowledge floating around in your head? Test your knowledge in categories like sports, hobbies, music, television and movies, books, people and places, and entertainment (with some random things tossed in!).
Register as an individual (we will put you on a team) or with your friends! The team with the best score will win some PRIZES!
May 4 - Family Movie Night
Our organizing committee wanted to host some events that are open to the whole community, so join us for a free night at the movies! We are showing Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi at Richcraft Recreation Complex.
Bring a blanket and enjoy a picnic-style indoor movie with one of the most popular movies of 2017! Feel free to bring nut-free snacks!
May the Force be with you!
May 5 - Town Hall with Councillor Marianne Wilkinson
There is the opportunity for youth to be more connected and better informed than ever before! We want to give youth in Kanata North the chance to have discussions about their community and city with their representative, as well as to learn more about programs and opportunities that are currently available to them.
This event is open to the general public, but individuals 26+ must be accompanied by a youth (13-25 for this event). We are open to discussing broader community topics, but want the focus to be youth. After all, the purpose of this event is to help give youth a voice!
May 6 - Escape Room
Our organizing committee has been working incredibly hard on our most difficult and involved event. We hope this will be a good introduction for people new to the idea of an escape room, but still challenging enough to give experienced players some thrills!
You will be tasked with identifying a saboteur and locating a device that would be very disruptive to the building! Play with a group and escape in 25 minutes or less.
May 7 - Career Workshops presented by Community Employment Resource Centre
Many youth have trouble writing their first resume, or do not know what steps to take in order to enter the workforce. The Community Employment Resource Centre (CERC) will be running two 1.5 hour sessions at Richcraft Recreation complex.
- Resume Writing (bring a laptop!)
- Entering the workforce
