National Youth Week at Richcraft

What is National Youth Week?

It is a celebration of youth involvement in their community held during the week of May 1-7.The 2018 event will be Richcraft Recreation Complex's inaugural celebration.

Youth contribute to their community in many different ways; recreation, sport, civic engagement, art, volunteerism, leadership, and more! This is a way to acknowledge their contributions and encourage more youth to get out and #GetInvolved!

What are we doing?

At Richcraft Recreation Complex, the Youth Connexion and R.E.A.C.H. programs will be putting together a Youth Organizing Committee to create, develop, and deliver special events and activities for youth to interact with each other and the community. The committee will be choosing activities to host at Richcraft Rec Complex during the week of May 1-7, as well as promoting the event in the community.

Why should I #GetInvolved?

Community involvement that gives rich, engaging experiences to youth are immensely valuable in several ways. The Youth Organizing Committee is an opportunity for some highly-motivated youth to get real hands-on experience in event planning, marketing, promotion, and sponsorship. This event can be a first-step to a career in events, communications, marketing, or recreation!

It is also an opportunity for these youth to gain an experience that can help with scholarship and bursary applications. Many volunteer-based scholarships ask students to explain how their volunteer experience impacted the community and what the student learned from the opportunity. Engaging experiences will give youth more to talk about in these applications and can help them get more funds to help with post-secondary expenses!

Finally, if those first two reasons aren't good enough for you, this is a great chance to create something new and HAVE FUN doing it! Have you ever felt that you could make something great, but you haven't had the opportunity to get it off the ground? THIS IS YOUR CHANCE! Help us create a fun and exciting new event in Kanata. We want to turn your vision into reality.
